All the gossip from the night |
|
|
As always, there was plenty of shop talk at the awards, which uncovered some juicy gossip which everyone will have promptly forgot by the morning. But don't worry, we stayed sober so you didn't have to. You heard it here first (or possibly second).
Nick's in the houseNick House, from Nick House Entertainment has joined forces with fashion label Voyage to create an exclusive international club night Fashion Overdose which previewed in London's Pangea recently. Only the upper echelon of the party scene has been privy to this elite club night, which over the summer will launch in San Tropez, Marbella and New York (coinciding with Fashion Week in September). The next night will be held at Mint Leaf on July 29, so unless your name is Paris Hilton or Dan Macmillan, you'd better start being really nice to Nick if you want to be part of his glamorous gang. Nick describes the night's music as "fucked up music that can't be pigeonholed."
Tommy Mack gets shreddedIf you love watching Trinny and Susannah (What Not to Wear) ripping shreds off some poor fashion car crash, then keep a keen eye on their next series. Party entrepreneur and bit part actor Tommy Mack (Manumission, Black and White Ball) was out in full force at the awards with BBC camera crew in tow, as he enjoyed his last night of freedom before he is "de-ragged" by the fashion police (apparently all his vintage Versace jackets have been binned by the girls.) Party circuit veteran Tommy was also up for nomination in the Up-All-Night Prize category, but could be losing his party animal touch as he failed to clinch the award. Tommy was, however, insisting he still "goes out on a Thursday and comes home on a Monday," and was heard slurring his words at the end of the night, so it thankfully appears to be a momentary lapse of form. Incidentally, the Up-All-Night Prize went to another party veteran Mark Fuller, who said he "had won many awards in his life, and was pleased to be recognised by his peers."
Rusty by nameSpeaking of party veterans, the irrepressible Rusty Egan, winner of Best DJ category was there in all his glory and wins the unofficial prize for "shameless self-promotion during acceptance speech." Rusty reminded the crowd that he is available to play "weddings, Batmitzvahs and underage parties." In between, you can catch Rusty playing at Boujis on Tuesdays during club night "Rock Star". Winner of the Best Gywneth Paltrow acceptance speech went to Best Barman Thomas Gillran (Baglioni Hotel, Chelsea Academy of Bartending) who emotionally dedicated his speech to "all the bar backs out there." Awww...
Sound waves across the globeWinner of Outstanding Achievement Award was the ever-present Ministry of Sound, who continue to go from strength to strength. This South London superclub's staying power has meant their brand has truly gone international with the recent opening of a club in Taipei and soon to be open club in Singapore (so you'll never be too far away from good ole Elephant and Castle when on the equator). Ministry have also secured their place in the audio/digital market and are official number three in the marketplace for their audio sales. But stay tuned folks, not only will you be listening to Ministry music on your Ministry MP3 player, but you'll be swigging Ministry drinks and wearing Ministry fashion as the brand expands into other lifestyle markets. They are also currently promoting their exclusive event services, with their five rooms and luxury VIP space remaining a popular destination for events and parties.
Queer eyeSpeaking of fashion, pocket-sized fashion queen Julian Bennett (Queer Eye For a Straight Guy UK) was at the awards with his miniature dachshund Lulu in tow (à la Wizard of Oz). Julian, who used to work at The Embassy Club, presented the award for Best Party Organiser and Best Event Producer (did we mention Jiant won?). Watch out for Julian's exciting new TV game show called "Jules and Lulu" which involves straight couples, their hideous possessions, and a huge pink rubbish truck ….intrigued? Tune into ITV1.
It's a jungle out thereFlying the flag for charity on the night was I'm a Celebrity … Get me Out Of Here! contestant John Fashanu, who was raising money for the John Fashanu Charity Trust, helping displaced women and children in the UK.
Like father like sonFather and son team Jake and Chris Panayiotou scored a double whammy this year by jointly winning the Sexiest Host award (now there's a fantasy ladies) an accolade they shared with Cai Ferrer from Pure. The duo say they owe The Wellington's popular success to the intimate, personal party vibe that is hosted by either one of them five nights a week. Click here to return to the awards page. |
